The Aerobee XASR-SC-1 was an early American sounding rocket variant developed for high-altitude research, particularly by the U.S. Army Signal Corps. It was part of the broader Aerobee family, which played a crucial role in atmospheric and space science during the mid-20th century.

The Aerobee XASR-SC-1 was a two-stage vehicle comprising a solid-fuel booster and a liquid-fueled sustainer. The sustainer was powered by the Aerojet XASR-1 engine, a liquid-fueled rocket motor derived from the 21AL-2600 engine used in the Nike Ajax missile. This configuration enabled the rocket to achieve significant altitudes, making it suitable for various scientific experiments.

The first launch of the Aerobee XASR-SC-1 occurred on December 9, 1948, and it remained in operation until August 10, 1956, with a total of 21 launches during this period. These missions were instrumental in collecting data on the upper atmosphere, solar radiation, and other scientific phenomena, contributing significantly to the understanding of near-space environments.
