After a catalogue of Pioneer and Ranger program failures, the Block 3 Ranger 7 was the first US spacecraft to successfully reach the Moon, taking the first images of it from orbit before completing its mission by impacting on the surface.
Designer Notes
The base is modelled on a small section of the first photo it took (Ranger 7 Photographs the Moon).
The spacecraft model started off as a modification of one by Alekru, but in the end there are only a few pieces remaining from his design.
